30/11/2006 Bitter Pills at Carmarthen's new Tesco Store
More than 2 weeks after it's opening, the new Tesco Extra store in Carmarthen is still operating without a dispensing chemist's licence.
Disgruntled staff at the store are quietly hitting out at their bosses for having to go to 'extra' lengths in order to stay within the law.
"They have a multi-billion pound turnover and pay millions to their lawyers and then they can't even organise a simple thing like a licence. It's a disgrace" a checkout assistant at the new store was happy to tell queing customers.
To stay within the law, prescriptions are being faxed to the company's Llanelli store and processed there, and then transferred to Carmarthen with the promise of a 45 minute turnaround.
The situation came about when a local chemist objected to Tesco's licence application as the store itself is not within the designated area wich is subject to the application. As a result the application has now been referred to the National Assembly and is still pending.
