13/11/2006   'New' Pay and Display Car Park

A 'new' pay and display car park for Carmarthen was announced on the County Council's website today.
To many residents of Carmarthen this must come as great news until they realise that the 'new' car park is the old Tesco car park at Friars Park, which up to now has been free to use.

The statement reads "Tesco’s move to Five Fields will mean 374 new pay and display spaces at Friars Park, 39 spaces in Blue Street and 27 spaces off Lammas Street", giving the impression that over 400 new spaces will be available, when only the spaces in Blue Street are additional facilities as they had previously been reserved for Tesco staff.

What makes matters worse for the shops in Carmarthen's Town Centre is that the car park will be closed as of today to allow for work to be carried out - 400 parking spaces which will be very much missed by shoppers in Carmarthen.
