30 Full Time jobs will be created at a ?2.5m Cultural Enterprise Centre at Trinity College, Carmarthen.
The centre is designed to provide the latest in facilities for the creative industries in West Wales and will provide units for start-up businesses as well as established companies.

The centre is a joint venture between the college, Carmarthenshire County Council, the Welsh Assembly Government and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Wales' national Welsh-medium theatre company.

It is part-funded through the EU Objective One programme and is due for completion in July 2007.

Trinity principal Dr Medwin Hughes said, "This is a major development for the arts community and confirms the college's important contribution to the region's economy. It is also an example of how the college's reputation in the creative and performing arts is able to draw partners of national prominence to West Wales, which raises the profile of the region as well as investment opportunities."

One of the centre's main missions will be to provide Trinity students and graduates and others with the opportunity to start their own creative enterprises, while receiving full business support from the college's development unit.

The centre will also provide opportunities for members of the business community to take advantage of the facilities available and to tap into the expertise of academic staff, students and graduates at the college.

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru chair Lyn T Jones, said, "We're extremely happy to have such a prominent role in this exciting development at Trinity College. The new Cultural Enterprise Centre will be a valuable asset for us as a company and we look forward to a happy working partnership with the college to ensure the success of this historic contribution towards the cultural life of Carmarthenshire and Wales as a whole."

Designed by Swansea-based architect Huw Griffiths, the Centre is being built by Bridgend firm, Jehu.

Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru is at present based in temporary accommodation in Carmarthen town centre.

Since its founding in 2003, it has staged three major touring productions and produced a series of events at each National Eisteddfod.
